Hair cloning is a recent advantage in baldness cure. This method will not be ready for a decade, but it involves the harvest of follicles from the scalp, and the multiplying of the cells in those follicles dor transplant.
The technique, when it becomes reality, will transform the way baldness is treated.
What is Hair Cloning
Hair cloning is a baldness treatment expected to be ready for consumers by the year 2028. Unlike other baldness treatment approaches that involve putting in hair from other parts of the scalp, hair cloning grows all-new hair.
Whether or not it turns out to be the holy grail of baldness cures depends on how successful it is when it comes out.
How does hair cloning help with baldness
In general, cloning processes produce genetically identical copies of cells of organisms. The process of hair cloning involves the cloning of no organism; it involves the multiplication of cells.
To clone a person’s hair, treating physicians harvest between 50 and 100 hair follicles from the scalp. Once the physicians has the follicles in a petri dish, they are able to strip the dermal papilla cells and other parts from those follicles.
The dermal papilla cells have the ability to control follicle growth. Once these cells are isolated, they are multiplied in the laboratory.
When multiplied in large enough numbers, the cells are introduced in the scalp into each hair root. They grow existing vellus hair into more robust hairs and also grow new hair.
Is hair cloning the perfect answer to the baldness problem?
Work on hair cloning has been ongoing for decades, and there is much work yet to be done. Once it does become reality, hair cloning will turn out to be as simple as a number of injections delivered under anesthesia.
There are drawbacks attached to the process, however.
With hair cloning, including hair growth may be simple enough. What is not as simple as getting a cloned hair to grows, the kind of curl it has, the smoothness or coarseness that it possesses and other such qualities.
At this point, conventional hair transplant is still the only known way that can restore hair with qualities desired.
